Every April 29th, the performing arts world comes together to celebrate International Dance Day, a special occasion for all who love this art form. Dance takes center stage in theaters, studios, and streets around the world. Dancers and companies organize performances and open classes to share their artistry and remind us that ballet is for everyone, regardless of age or skill level.

We honor the life of Jean-Georges Noverre, a pioneer of modern ballet whose vision transformed dance by infusing it with expression and storytelling. Born in France in 1727, ballet at the time was a highly structured discipline, focused on technique with little emotional depth. Jean-Georges dreamed of a dance form that told stories, evoked emotions, and connected audiences with characters and music. His work, Letters on Dancing and Ballets, marked a turning point, bringing emotion, expression, action, and freedom to dance, inspiring generations of choreographers and dancers.

 Last February, we participated at Danza in Fiera, the leading international trade fair for the dance world, held in Florence. As every year, this event, organized by Pitti Immagine, brought together professionals, students, and ballet enthusiasts in a space where the passion for dance comes to life.

In addition to presenting our range of ballet barres and dance mirrors, we had the privilege of contributing as technical partners in exclusive masterclasses. We provided our barres so that great ballet figures could share their artistry and knowledge with new generations of dancers.

Masterclass with Frederic Olivieri, Director of Ballet at Teatro alla Scala in Milan

One of these sessions was led by Frederic Olivieri, the current director of ballet at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. With an outstanding career both as a dancer and in artistic direction, Olivieri has been a key figure in the development of contemporary ballet, combining classical tradition with an innovative vision.

His class at Danza in Fiera was an exceptional opportunity for participants to receive first-hand training from a master who has worked with some of the world’s most prestigious companies. The students had the chance to deepen their technique, movement control, and artistic expression under his guidance.

Elegance and Expression with Loredana Mapelli

Another masterclass was conducted by Loredana Mapelli, who was a Soloist and Prima Ballerina at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala in Milan. With a brilliant career, Mapelli has performed some of the most iconic roles in the classical repertoire and has worked with internationally renowned choreographers. Her mastery and artistic sensitivity have been an inspiration for generations of dancers. During her masterclass at Danza in Fiera, she conveyed with precision and passion the importance of musicality, line, and expressiveness in dance.
